Timeless and elegant, with the most romantic flair!
This late 19th century watch chain is a rare treasure, for it offers a glimpse into the stylistic sensibilities that were beginning to emerge at the turn of the century. Crafted circa 1890-1910 in 14 carat gold, this chain hangs at 15.5” – with a classic silhouette that can be dressed up or down. There is also a lovely dog clip and C Clasp that adds to the versatility of this piece!
But upon closer look, this piece also reveals a curious surprise: there is a super rare etching detail on the bars of this chain, foreshadowing the arrival of the deco period two decades later. Indeed, look at that geometric patterning! It feels ahead of its time, and yet still grounded in the artistic inclinations of the departing Victorian era.
Truly a wonderful addition to any antique jewelry collection!
